It seems that Nissan wants me to buy out my lease on my 2012 Leaf so badly that they have offered me $10,500 off of my residual - and I’ve decided to take them up on it.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
That puts my purchase price at $4,500 plus tax. It has about 42,000 miles on it and I have lost three of my 12 charge bars. However, it still has another year+ left on its 5 year/60,000 mile battery warranty. If I lose one more bar, I get a new battery from Nissan. Thus, I have decided to take the chance that it will in fact lose one more bar in the next 13 months.
The one drawback to this plan is that the car will no longer get me to and from work this winter. The heater on the 2011-2012 cars uses too much energy and you can’t completely switch it off. It will continue to heat the battery on the coldest days. On temperate days, my range is about 50 miles which is more than enough. Either my wife and I will switch cars or I will press the 944 into service (most likely).

There are a ton here in Nashville(almost like Nissans NA HQ is here). Im wondering whats going to happen to all of them other then the employees just turning them in. Nissan really needs to come out with a new one though. The current Leaf, as far as the market goes is being showed up. Yes it way cheaper then a Tesla but theyve had this tech so long the new one should get at least 150 miles out of it.

A battery is $5,500. However, the plan is for Nissan to replace it under warranty.

There’s a simple HVAC harness adapter for the ‘11-12 LEAF that lets you completely disable the heater (or run it at a lower temperature). This guy in Norway designed it. See this thread on the MNL forum:

Good luck on dropping to 8 capacity bars within the 5-year/60k mi warranty period.

I have actually heard of that. My concern is the effect it might have on my warranty.
